I love how there are times when you meet someone new and later realize it was not just random chance but a divine appointment. My husband Evan and I met Adam and Jena one year ago exactly at an event where we ended up sharing a table at an event. We chatted and realized we had a lot in common, including that we attend the same church! We also discovered that we had some mutual friends. We found one another on social media and remained in touch.
Then earlier this year, Jena messaged me and said that they were in need of family pictures! She was envisioning a spring shoot in the beautiful flowering trees in our area. I was thrilled! We talked a lot about outfit selections, locations, and the overall feel and vision for the shoot. Jena wanted something DREAMY and in more formal attire (CAN I GET AN AMEN?!) This is the kind of family session I dream of!!! Spring sessions can be tricky because the weather can be so unpredictable in Colorado and the bloom window can be so short. We had to reschedule a couple of times but finally on Mother’s Day weekend we found a break in the crazy weather and the trees were full of gorgeous white blooms!!!
Jena and her girls, Ariella and Naomi had their hair done professionally and they looked absolutely stunning. Jena found the most gorgeous dresses for herself and her girls. Adam and their son Yosef dressed up too and looked so dapper (Yosef even wore a bow tie and suit jacket!) The soft, neutral colors of their wardrobe was absolute perfection and really gave their images that light and airy feel I love!
We met at Fly’n B Park in Highlands Ranch and started the shoot. We had the BEST time!!! All of the kids were so sweet and amazing to work with. I was especially surprised by Yosef! He had lots of great ideas and knew how to pose. And the girls were absolutely incredible. I was sure the three of them had taken modeling classes!!! I also loved how Adam and Jena were comfortable being affectionate with one another and letting their romance really show. It made for some incredibly beautiful images. All of them were up for anything I suggested. At one point I asked Adam and Jena to sit in what was basically a ditch and they didn’t even hesitate! haha.
We shot until the light was completely gone and as we were ending my camera stopped. I looked down and realized I had gotten to the end of my memory cards! That is a first! I took so many pictures because it was all just SO GOOD and I just could not help myself. As we were wrapping up and chatting we discovered that the kids go to the school where my mom teaches and two of them have been in my mom’s class!!! It was such a crazy coincidence. They all said how much they love my mom and that being in her class has instilled a love of learning in them which made me well up with tears. Again, divine appointment!
Adam and Jena, thank you for trusting me to capture your beautiful family and your love for one another. It truly was an honor. It was really tough narrowing it down but here are some of my favorite images from your session!!!
xoxo,
Elena
