Oh. My. Heart. I cannot believe our sweet baby girl is ONE!!! This year has been the best year of our lives, thanks to this precious little soul. She completed our family and brought us more JOY than we could ever have imagined. It’s been the sweetest season, soaking in her baby days.
Esmé my darling,
From the very beginning you have been such a gentle, peaceful little girl. Your birth was so beautiful and redemptive for me in so many ways. And each day with you since then has been such a gift. I always say you are the brightest star in our sky. I love you so much, sometimes my heart actually aches. I can’t imagine my life without you and I thank God for choosing me be your mama.
These past few weeks have been amazing watching you grow. You started fully crawling at 11 months and very soon after you were going ALL the way up the stairs and getting much more confident standing and sitting back down. You love blowing raspberries on me because you know it makes me laugh. The fact that you intentionally do something because you know it will make me smile is just the sweetest thing imaginable.
You love the cats and smile big every time you see them. You play peek-a-boo with us, covering your little face with your hands and laughing every time. You are finding your voice and you have lots to say. We LOVE the baby babble and all of your funny grunts, growls and noises. You love dancing to music. Speaking of music, your daddy wrote you a lullaby and it just melted my heart. He loves you so much, baby girl.
Your bright blue eyes amaze me every single day. I cannot get over how gorgeous you are. Your brother adores you and always wants to be with you. He looks out for you, plays with you and sings to you when you are sad. It’s so amazing watching you two bond. You both just light up when you see each other and it makes my mama heart so happy. I know you will be the best of friends throughout your lives.
You are still nursing and I absolutely love that time with you. Nothing makes me happier than holding your sweet little body against mine, and I am so thankful for the gift of being able to breastfeed you. You also love your veggie purees and are starting to eat some soft solid foods. You sleep beautifully in your crib and are down to one nap a day. I love rocking you and singing to you at bedtime.
I look back on this first year of your life and while it did go by fast, I truly was intentional about enjoying each day with you. You have been the sweetest gift and I still can’t believe you are real sometimes. I tell your daddy all the time that we won the baby lottery with you!!!
For your birthday, we had family visiting from California and it was so fun getting to have them share in your special celebration! You met your little cousin Victor who is just two weeks older than you. We did a taco bar and had gourmet cupcakes. You had a little whipped cream with strawberries for your birthday dessert!
I am so excited to continue to watch you grow and become who God made you to be. You are kind, you are smart, you are brave, you are capable, you are beautiful. And you are LOVED, just as your name means.
Happy first birthday, my darling.
